This Week’s Wedding Announcements

Lauren Wright was a new Ph.D. student in American government at Georgetown in the fall of 2011. She was instantly attracted to Jonathan Mummolo, a second-year Ph.D. student with casual good looks in jeans and rolled-up shirt sleeves, intently leading an orientation meeting.

“I asked a question so he would look at me,’’ she said.

Later at a reception she got his attention again in a small circle of students after mentioning that she had been an intern and a field representative for Meg Whitman, the 2010 Republican candidate for governor in California, whose mentor was Mitt Romney.

“What do you think of Mitt Romney?’’ he recalled asking her.

Mr. Mummolo spoke as a true social scientist, she said, with “no sign of partisanship. No grimace.”

Ms. Wright said she “was excited about that question. My job as an intern was to drive him to a campaign event. I had a little bit of personal insight.”
