AN online auction of a pair of Remembrance Day themed shoes raised £160 for two charities.
After spending five months creating the bespoke soles, National Shoe Repairer of the Year, Ken Simpson, from Shildon, in County Durham, decided to sell the items to raise money for Help For Heroes and the Royal British Legion.
The shoes, which are not for wearing but just for decorative purposes, attracted a lot of interest while on display in Mr Simpson’s business, Simpson’s Shoe Repairs, on Church Street.
They also proved popular online, with 27 bids received during their nine-day auction on Ebay.
From the proceeds, 75 per cent will go towards Help For Heroes and 25 per cent to the Royal British Legion.
