Girls on the Run fits runners with proper shoes ahead of race day

A local group of girls is ready to race after a special shoe fitting event held for the Girls on the Run race, set to take place on May 23, 2019.

An event sponsored by New Balance, organizers helped numerous excited racers find the right pair of shoes and the proper fit Sunday at the Borgess Health and Fitness Center in Kalamazoo.

Girls on the Run is at the Borgess Health and Fitness Center fitting runners for brand new running shoes courtesy of both Gazelle Sports and New Balance. Every girl signed up to run will be receiving new shoes, something coaches say is vital to avoiding injury.

“It’s what you’re walking on all day. It supports the rest of your body. So you want to make sure that these girls are going to have the proper support and the proper footwear so they’re comfortable when they’re out there doing the exercises and the runs, and especially on race day,” Sean Shanahan of Girls on the Run of Greater Kalamazoo said.
