The bride and groom in their Oscar de la Renta and Giorgio Armani wedding outfits
WHEN human rights barrister Amal Alamuddin married her Oscar-winning fiancé George Clooney this weekend, there was one question on all our lips – what will she wear?
Well, in addition to the bespoke Alexander McQueen, Giambattista Valli, Dolce & Gabbana and Stella McCartney outfits that were clear for all to see – and admire – as Alamuddin was whisked along Venice’s Grand Canal in a boat called Amoré, when it came to the moment itself, the bride wore Oscar de la Renta.
The bride wore a bespoke Stella McCartney suit for the couple’s civil ceremony at Venice’s Municipal Building.

“He’s such an elegant designer and such an elegant man,” Alamuddin said of De la Renta, who created a bespoke off-the-shoulder gown crafted from French lace with hand-embroidered pearls, diamanté detail and a sweeping train.
The groom didn’t let the side down either, wearing a black, ultra-fine cashmere tuxedo suit by his close friend Giorgio Armani.
“Giorgio is the class act of all class acts,” the actor said. “He’s been a good friend for many years and the night wouldn’t be complete without him.” The designer himself, meanwhile, called it “a pleasure for me to dress him for [the] occasion, in which he stars in the most important role: that of the groom”.

As well as the designer contingency, there were also personal touches: Clooney wore cufflinks that were a gift from his bride and engraved with his name is Arabic.

“George and Amal radiated love all night,” Alamuddin’s mother Baria told People. “The wedding was so unbelievably special, it was legendary. These three days – the friends, the families, the atmosphere, everything – will stay with me all the rest of my life.”
Baria also revealed that during the ceremony she addressed Clooney in front of the guests and told him: “I said, ‘George, we love you truly, deeply and sincerely. We enjoy your charm, your wit, intelligent conversation and generosity. You are simply perfect’.”
