TALK about junk in the trunk.
Jeans that make it appear like you have a permanent ‘wedgie’ are the latest look in denim.
The high-waisted cut is fast rivalling jeggings as the ‘it’ style in denim, as seen on Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Beyonce and J.Lo.
It’s a throwback to the 90s when the booty-enhancing cut — which lifts and separates the cheeks — was worn by Mariah Carey (circa her videos for Dreamloverand Heartbreaker), Janet Jackson, Madonna and Paula Abdul, along with supermodels of the era (Elle Macpherson and Naomi Campbell) and Winona Ryder in Reality Bites.

Levi’s has released a style appropriately dubbed the “wedgie fit”, with the cut also seen in reconstructed denim label, Re/Done, and Australian denim label, Nobody.
And when Kylie Jenner dedicates a series of photos on her Instagram feed (to more than 50 million followers) to her own “mom jeans”, you know the look is very now.
Nobody design and development manager Rebekah McQuoid described the cut as “an ode to the 90s”.
“It’s a true 90s look … it was also known as the ‘mom jean’ in the 90s,” McQuoid told News Corp Australia.
“They have a high waist, and sit on or above the waist, are slim over your hips but not spray-on tight, and they typically have a tapered leg.”
She said the cut “now finishes at the ankle, which makes it that bit cooler” than denim made in the 90s, which were usually full-length.

Nobody’s version of the “wedgie fit” is the Tomboy (priced at $229).
“It’s fitted but not skin tight and if it is skin tight that’s when you get the true wedgie,” McQuoid said.
She said the modern take on the style was “a bit more relaxed”.
“When it’s skin tight and oozing out, that’s where the word wedgie really makes sense,” McQuoid said.
“It keeps coming around. It’s how you style it.”
Meantime, Levi’s global design spokesman Jonathan Cheung told the Mail Online the label’s “wedgie fit” cut was partly inspired by the reconstructed denim trend.
“We noticed a lot of girls were wearing old vintage 505s,” Cheung said.
“What’s great about the vintage 505 is the flatness at the front that holds your tummy in, and they are a little tight around the back. It’s these details that we’ve distilled into the Wedgie.”
